Mercedes Benz, a German luxury car brand silently launched the all-new petrol derivative of its highest selling SUV, GLE in the country today. With excessive growth witnesses in the SUV portfolio for the first half of 2016, the company believes that the momentum will continue throughout the second half of this year. Marking the first instance wherein a GLE SUV will be offered in the petrol version, the company plans to introduce petrol variants to all the products in its portfolio. Initially, the GLE petrol variant will be brought-in through CBU route with local production to commence later this year.
Previously, the Mercedes Benz India also introduced the all-new GLE 450 AMG Coupe in the Indian car market at the price tag of INR 86.4 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The newly launched GLE 450 AMG is a crossover-coupe version of the new GLE SUV that was introduced in the Indian market in the year 2015. Moreover, the new AMG Coupe is the company’s foremost launch of the year out of 12 new launches planned in the year 2016 for the Indian market. Earlier, the Mercedes Benz GLE SUV was offered in diesel engine only with manufacturing process carried out at company’s facility in Chakan, India. With the inclusion of new petrol derivative, the Mercedes Benz GLE SUV is available in 4 different variants – GLE 250d, GLE 350d, GLE 400 and the AMG GLE 450 Coupe.
Talking about the exterior, the new Mercedes GLE features a new pair of headlamps as well as a larger angular grille. The grille comes with a twin-slat design that houses centrally mounted three-pointed-star. Moreover, the trademark angular C-pillar and redesigned large tail-lamps gets a modern look. The GLE also comes equipped with LED headlamps. Dimensionally, the Mercedes Benz GLE Class comes with a length of 4819mm, width of 2141mm and height of 1796mm along with wheelbase of 2915mm.
On the inside, the new Mercedes GLE SUV features a larger screen and the air-con vents get classy silver surrounds that complemented by the gloss black dashboard. The GLE SUV is also offered with a variety of trim options like an open-pore brown ash wood or the shiny wood types such as brown eucalyptus, black polar or brown burred walnut, etc. In terms of features, it gets revolutionary Apple CarPlay as standard fitment and a Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system with 14 high-performance loudspeakers endows with a 360 degree acoustic experience. In terms of safety, Mercedes- Benz GLE SUV features comprehensive safety features as well as advanced assistance systems which includes assistance systems such as Crosswind Assist, Attention Assist, Active Parking Assist and Brake Assist. It also sports 6 airbags for driver and passenger protection which are adaptive front airbags, side bags for driver and front passenger and window airbags.
